“This shirt was also one of our best sellers, and it’s probably pretty obvious why.

The B Series with a Red Top (i.e., Type R) was the ‘crème de la crème’ of 4-cylinder engines at the time and was taking off, setting records on the drag strip — and this design honored that.

DOHC VTEC was a huge game changer when introduced in the 90’s, and everyone wanted a little red valve cover under their hood. It’s amazing that, after 30 years, the capabilities of the B Series engine still make it competitive at the racetrack.

My first Honda Challenge race car, built by our Team SGR in the early 2000’s, was an EK Hatch with a B18 Type R engine swap on Hasport mounts. Our entire team took a DX EK Civic Hatchback chassis from start to finish — motor swap, roll cage, full safety, etc. — to our first race at Autoclub Speedway in Fontana, CA in just 6 weeks. In that championship, we placed 2nd overall (I was the driver) and I was also NASA Rookie of the Year.

As the B-Series engines get harder and harder to find, they get more expensive. (Luckily, this shirt is much cheaper than an engine, haha.)

At Autocannon we’re lucky to currently have two Civic Hatchbacks powered by both the B16 and B18 Type R’s, both recently rebuilt for track use.

Although I love the K Series, and it’s a phenomenal engine, the B-Series has my heart.”
